U.S.–Nigeria Investment Dialogue Unveils Partnerships to Boost Critical Minerals, Energy, Security

HM FMITI Dr Jumoke Oduwole,  Mr Daryl Boukamp Vermeer Corporation,  Promethean Resources  Demola Gbadegesin.

NEW YORK — Three strategic partnerships have been announced at the U.S.–Nigeria Strategic Investment Dialogue, opening new avenues for investment, technology transfer and commercial cooperation in Nigeria’s critical minerals, renewable energy and mining security sectors.

The announcements were made on September 24, 2026, on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York City, with Nigerian minerals company Promethean Resources partnering with U.S. firms Vermeer Corporation, Renewvia Energy Corporation and Terra Industries.

The partnerships are focused on modernising mining operations, developing renewable energy solutions for mining communities and strengthening security around mineral assets and processing facilities.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, said the Federal Government’s priority was to convert bilateral dialogue and cooperation frameworks into tangible commercial partnerships capable of supporting Nigeria’s industrial ambitions.

“Our priority is to translate dialogue and cooperation frameworks into tangible commercial partnerships that advance Nigeria’s industrial ambitions,” Oduwole said.

She added that Promethean’s collaboration with Vermeer would introduce U.S. equipment and technology to the development of iron ore, tin, lithium and gold deposits, while partnerships with Renewvia and Terra would support renewable energy and security.

“Together, these provide a platform for investment, local value addition and deeper Nigeria–US economic ties,” she said.

Vermeer, Promethean Partner on Mining Technology

Under the proposed collaboration between Vermeer Corporation and Promethean Resources, precision mining equipment would be deployed across Promethean’s mineral portfolio, covering iron ore, tin, lithium and gold.

Vermeer, a U.S.-based equipment manufacturer, is expected to contribute mining technology aimed at improving operational efficiency, workforce development and responsible mineral extraction and processing.

The partnership is also expected to support greater local value addition within Nigeria’s mining industry.

Renewvia to Develop Renewable Power for Mining Communities

Promethean Resources has also entered into a strategic partnership with Renewvia Energy Corporation to develop renewable energy solutions for its mining and mineral processing operations.

The partnership will initially assess priority mining locations and develop scalable solar, battery-storage and mini-grid systems.

Beyond powering mining operations, the initiative is intended to extend affordable and reliable electricity to surrounding host communities, with potential benefits for industrial productivity and local economic development.

Renewvia is a U.S.-based renewable energy developer headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with operations in the United States, Nigeria, Kenya and Somalia. Through its African operations, the company develops, builds and operates solar and hybrid mini-grids as well as commercial and industrial renewable energy systems.

Terra, Promethean Target Mining Security

In another strategic development, Promethean Resources and Terra Industries signed a Letter of Intent to explore technology-enabled security solutions for mining and mineral processing sites in Nigeria.

The proposed system would combine autonomous surveillance towers, unmanned aerial systems and Terra’s Artemis OS platform to enhance perimeter monitoring, threat detection and incident response.

Initial deployment is proposed for mining operations in Plateau and Kaduna states, with the possibility of expanding the technology to other locations.

Terra Industries develops autonomous aerial and ground systems and software designed to support security and situational awareness for critical infrastructure operators.

Focus on Critical Minerals Development

The three partnerships collectively target key challenges confronting Nigeria’s critical minerals sector—mining productivity, energy supply and security.

Promethean Resources, established in 2012 under Managing Director Demola Gbadegesin, operates in minerals extraction and processing, with a portfolio focused on tin and other solid minerals and assets and joint ventures across Kaduna, Plateau and Bauchi states.

Vermeer Corporation, founded in 1948 and headquartered in Pella, Iowa, manufactures equipment for sectors including underground construction, surface mining, environmental services and agriculture. The company has more than 600 dealers serving customers in over 100 countries.

The agreements announced in New York are expected to deepen U.S.–Nigeria commercial ties while creating opportunities for international technology and expertise to support mineral development, local processing, energy access and host-community development in Nigeria.
