Dangote Refinery IPO: Investor Confidence Rises as Group Targets $36bn 2026 Revenue

Investor confidence in the proposed Dangote Petroleum Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO) is gaining momentum following projections that the Dangote Group could generate about $36 billion in revenue by the end of 2026.

The projection, which represents a potential 100 per cent increase over the $18 billion revenue recorded by the Group in 2025, has heightened investor interest in the refinery and its long-term growth prospects.

The Group’s Chief Strategy Officer, Aliyu Suleiman, disclosed that Dangote Group generated approximately $17 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, putting it on course to achieve its projected full-year revenue target.

The development has attracted interest from institutional and private investors, who view the refinery as a major industrial asset with significant potential in Nigeria, Africa and the international energy market.

A Lagos-based institutional investor, Tunde Adebayo, who subscribed to the refinery’s IPO, said the Group’s growth trajectory was a major factor behind his investment decision.

“The projected growth trajectory of the Dangote Group and the refinery’s strategic position in the global energy market gave us strong confidence to invest. The forecast revenue of $36 billion demonstrates the scale of the business and the value creation potential available to shareholders,” he said.

Similarly, Abuja-based private investor, Amina Bello, described the refinery as an opportunity to participate in a major African industrial enterprise.

“What attracted me is the refinery’s ability to serve both the Nigerian market and export destinations across Africa and beyond. Few businesses on the continent have this level of infrastructure, market reach, and growth prospects,” she said.

Investment manager and Dangote Cement shareholder, Dr. Samuel Okonkwo, said the refinery’s expansion plans also influenced his decision to invest.

He pointed to the proposed expansion of the refinery’s processing capacity to about 1.4 million barrels per day, as well as plans for an East African refinery project, as indicators of the Group’s long-term expansion strategy.

Investor interest is also being linked to Dangote Group’s Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to expand globally competitive businesses and accelerate industrial development across Africa.

According to Suleiman, the Group invested approximately $50 billion in capital expenditure between 2020 and 2025 and plans to invest nearly twice that amount over the next five years.

A major component of the expansion strategy is the proposed 700,000 barrels-per-day refinery and petrochemical complex in Lamu, Kenya, estimated to cost about $17 billion.

The Group has already signed a contract valued at more than $450 million with Engineers India Limited (EIL) for project management consultancy and engineering services for the proposed project.

The planned East African refinery is expected to support Dangote Group’s ambition of building a $100 billion African industrial enterprise while contributing to regional energy security and industrial development.

Commenting on the growing investor interest, the Vice President, Oil & Gas, Dangote Industries Limited, Edwin Devakumar, said the market response reflected confidence in the refinery’s fundamentals and growth prospects.

“The enthusiasm being shown by investors is a reflection of confidence in the refinery’s strong fundamentals, operational efficiency, and long-term growth prospects,” Devakumar said.

He added that the refinery’s integrated infrastructure, strategic location and capacity to produce petroleum products to international standards could support sustained growth.

The $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery, described as the world’s largest single-train refinery, has continued to ramp up production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other refined petroleum products.

The facility is expected to support domestic petroleum supply while also serving regional and international markets through exports.

The combination of the Dangote Group’s projected revenue growth, refinery expansion plans and increasing demand for refined petroleum products has continued to draw attention from investors as the proposed IPO progresses.

The refinery is also positioned as a major component of Dangote Group’s broader industrial strategy, with its performance expected to have implications for Nigeria’s energy supply, petroleum-product exports and Africa’s wider industrial development.
