Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents and visitors of heightened security across the state as Lagos prepares for increased activities during the Yuletide season and ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, during a meeting with security chiefs at the State House, Marina, where security operations across Lagos were reviewed and strategies for strengthening public safety were discussed.
The meeting came against the backdrop of the expected influx of residents, visitors and tourists into Lagos during the end-of-year period, alongside religious, cultural and social activities traditionally associated with the Yuletide.
The Governor also noted the increasing tempo of political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that security agencies must remain proactive in preventing criminal elements from exploiting the heightened activities across the state.
Sanwo-Olu said his administration would continue to work with security agencies to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the Governor said.
The meeting provided an opportunity for security chiefs to brief the state government on ongoing operations, emerging security challenges and measures being implemented to strengthen coordination among security agencies.
Those in attendance included the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani; Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, NAF 651 Base Services Group, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also present were senior officials of the Lagos State Government, including the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Lawal Pedro.
The security council meeting underscored the Sanwo-Olu administration’s continued focus on inter-agency coordination and proactive security measures as Lagos prepares for a period of increased social, economic and political activities.
The state government said the measures are aimed at maintaining public safety and ensuring that residents, businesses and visitors can carry out their activities without disruption.
