OneHealth Opens Lumina Creator Contest to Nigerians, Expands Health Access Drive
OneHealth, a Nigerian digital-first pharmacy and healthcare platform, has opened its Lumina Creator Contest to the general public as part of efforts to expand awareness and access to digital healthcare services across the country.
The contest, initially focused on students, is now open to Nigerians nationwide and encourages participants to create engaging content that helps more people discover and understand Lumina, OneHealth’s AI-powered health assistant.
Lumina operates entirely through WhatsApp, eliminating the need for users to download a separate application or create an account. The platform provides assistance with everyday health questions, including medication information, product selection and orders, while also connecting users with licensed pharmacists or doctors when human clinical support is required.
According to OneHealth, Lumina also supports Mà ámi, its maternal and sexual health initiative, although medication guidance and general health enquiries constitute a significant portion of the service’s daily use.
The AI health assistant forms part of OneHealth’s broader healthcare ecosystem, which includes its online pharmacy, PillFinda wholesale marketplace, Pillmova logistics service, The Method weight-management programme, Imani wearable breast pump and its nationwide delivery network serving patients, Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) and pharmacy partners.
The company said the expansion of the contest is aimed at making Lumina more accessible and familiar to Nigerians beyond university communities.
“The contest is about getting more Nigerians to actually know Lumina exists,” said Adeola Alli, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OneHealth.
“We opened it up beyond students because the questions Lumina answers aren't a campus-only problem; they're every Nigerian's problem, from a parent trying to figure out a child's medication to someone who just wants a straight answer at an odd hour.”
The initiative comes against the backdrop of significant gaps in healthcare and pharmaceutical access in Nigeria.
A Digital Health Africa analysis of the country’s medication access gap cited a ratio of approximately one pharmacist to 13,385 people in Nigeria, compared with the World Health Organisation’s recommended ratio of one pharmacist to 2,000 people.
OneHealth said it plans to take Lumina directly to university campuses, including the University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos, following the conclusion of the contest.
The campus engagement will build on community outreach initiatives previously undertaken by the company through its Mà ámi programme.
Alli stressed that Lumina is designed to complement, rather than replace, professional healthcare providers.
“We're not trying to replace a doctor or a pharmacist,” he said. “We're trying to make sure that whatever a person's very first health question is, whatever it's about, they have somewhere reliable, free and immediate to take it.”
Nigerians interested in participating in the Lumina Creator Contest, as well as universities, student bodies, non-governmental organisations and corporate partners interested in future campus engagements, can obtain further information through OneHealth’s official channels.
