Fidelity Bank Distributes 2,500 Food Packs to Vulnerable Residents in Edo
Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed 2,500 food packs to vulnerable residents across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State, as part of efforts to strengthen food security and support families facing economic hardship.
The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative and held at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
The programme is part of Fidelity Bank’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and improving the wellbeing of families across Nigeria.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the intervention was designed to provide immediate relief while strengthening community resilience.
“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Nwagboh said.
He explained that the initiative also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.
According to him, the Uromi intervention was targeted at families across eight communities, particularly those affected by food insecurity.
Nwagboh disclosed that Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs monthly through the Fidelity Food Bank programme, in partnership with 19 organisations across the country.
He said the partnerships enable the bank to extend its intervention to communities where the need for food support is greatest.
The Edo State Government commended Fidelity Bank for extending the programme to residents of Uromi.
The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo at the event, said the initiative demonstrated the role corporate organisations could play in supporting communities.
“At a time like this, when family needs come first, this act of kindness demonstrates that corporate organisations have a vital role to play in the wellbeing of our communities,” Uwangue said.
He thanked Fidelity Bank for the intervention on behalf of the state government and residents of Uromi, while urging other corporate organisations to emulate the gesture by supporting communities where they operate.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank and its partners, saying the food packs would provide relief and help reduce the burden of feeding their families.
The Fidelity Food Bank programme, launched in April 2023, is one of the bank’s flagship CSR initiatives focused on addressing hunger and malnutrition and supporting communities experiencing food insecurity.
Since its launch, the programme has distributed more than 300,000 food packs to beneficiaries across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
