Dangote Refinery IPO: Dangote Pledges Strong Returns, Generational Wealth for Investors
President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has described the $1.6 billion Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE as a landmark investment opportunity capable of delivering strong returns and long-term wealth creation for Nigerians and Africans.
Dangote made the remarks during the “Facts Behind the Offer” presentation at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in Lagos, where he described the transaction as the largest IPO ever undertaken in Africa.
According to him, the offer goes beyond capital raising, providing millions of investors with an opportunity to become part-owners of a strategic industrial asset that is already generating substantial revenue and profitability.
“The Dangote Refinery IPO is more than an investment opportunity; it is an opportunity for millions of Nigerians and Africans to build lasting wealth through ownership of a world-class industrial asset,” Dangote said.
He said the refinery had been built to deliver strong revenues, profitability and economic value, adding that shareholders stood to benefit from attractive returns and dividend prospects while building wealth that could extend across generations.
Dangote said the offer reflects the Group’s long-standing philosophy of creating prosperity through broad-based ownership and giving ordinary citizens an opportunity to participate in the success of transformational businesses.
He noted that the refinery had already achieved its core objective of helping to transform Nigeria from a major importer of refined petroleum products into a significant refining and export hub.
“We are not merely offering shares; we are offering Nigerians an opportunity to participate in a transformational chapter of our economic history. This is a strategic investment in an asset that is creating jobs, conserving foreign exchange, enhancing energy security and strengthening Africa’s industrial capacity,” he said.
N4.1bn shares offered at N525
The IPO comprises 4.1 billion ordinary shares offered at N525 per share, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares valued at N5,250.
The structure is expected to encourage broad participation from retail and institutional investors, including civil servants, teachers, artisans, students, pension funds and members of the Nigerian diaspora.
Highlighting the refinery’s financial performance, Dangote disclosed that the company generated approximately N19.47 trillion in revenue in the first half of 2026, while profit after tax stood at N2.55 trillion.
At the offer price, Dangote Petroleum Refinery is expected to have an implied market capitalisation of approximately N65.22 trillion.
When combined with the market capitalisations of Dangote Cement Plc and Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, the listing is projected to create an equity cluster worth about N83.5 trillion, which would make the Dangote Group the largest equity cluster on the Nigerian Exchange.
IPO marks milestone for African capital markets
Chairman of NGX Group, Umaru Kwairanga, described the transaction as a defining milestone for Africa’s capital markets, saying it demonstrates the capacity of African capital markets to support large-scale projects capable of driving economic growth and development.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also hailed the IPO as a watershed moment for Africa’s financial markets, saying it reinforces confidence in the continent’s ability to mobilise capital and invest in its own economic future.
“This transaction is changing perceptions about what is possible in Africa. It is creating opportunities for a broad spectrum of investors, from small business owners and market traders to institutional investors and technology entrepreneurs,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Stock Exchange, Kesegofetse Molatlhegi, commended Dangote for demonstrating that African ambition could deliver globally significant industrial projects.
Molatlhegi also encouraged wider participation across the continent in the refinery’s growth story.
Refinery targets global leadership
Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Davide Bird, highlighted the facility’s operational achievements, saying it had become the largest single supplier of refined petroleum products into Europe while maintaining safe, reliable and efficient operations.
He said the company remained focused on achieving its Vision 2030 objective of becoming the world’s largest integrated refinery and petrochemical complex.
Reaffirming the importance of the IPO, Dangote said the offer would enable investors to transition from consumers to owners of one of Africa’s most strategic industrial enterprises.
“This is a defining investment opportunity. We want millions of Nigerians and Africans to become owners of a business that has been built to create value for generations,” he said.
According to him, investors who participate in the offer would be positioning themselves to benefit from the refinery’s growth, resilience and long-term value creation.
